It seems that while we don't know much about the Mayor of Tehran who is the new President of Iran (see my piece), we also seem not to be paying much attention to the Mayor of Baghdad who is warning the American government about the utter decay of Baghdad and its infrastructure. It's pretty difficult to understand how, on the one hand, we can promise to help the Iraqis rebuild their country and lay the groundwork for a democracy, and yet, on the other, do so little to help make that happen. Where is the money going?
His Honor the Mayor says he has asked for $1.8 billion, just for 2005 alone, but gotten only $85 million so far. Why?
