Jailing Priests and Seizing Church Assets

No, I am not talking about jailing priests and seizing church assets for the actions of pedophile priests. I am talking about jailing them and seizing church assets when priests help the poor.

Huh, you say?

A provision, written by Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) , has passed as part of the border security bill in the US House of Representatives that would make it a crime for priests, nurses and social workers , among others, to knowingly give aid and comfort to illegal immigrants.

"Those breaking the law will be held accountable," Mr. Sensenbrenner said, "whether they are smugglers cruelly trafficking in human beings, employers hiring illegal workers or alien gang members terrorizing communities." Or, priests helping illegal immigrants find food, he forgot to mention. And while priests or social workers could go to jail, employers would only face increased fines, which most of them will be willing to continue to risk, primarily because the number of INS inspectors is insufficient to the task of inspecting hundreds of thousands of employers.
